Building LACMA Construction Update

Learn more about the construction of the David Geffen Galleries, the new home for LACMA’s permanent collection.


Construction Update

The following work will be conducted next week:

  • Major construction and commissioning of the new museum building is complete.
  • Ground level interiors continue at the east side of the project north of Wilshire Boulevard.
  • Basement and ground level interiors continue at the Spaulding Lot, south of Wilshire Boulevard.
  • Grading, concrete paving, and landscaping for new outdoor spaces continue throughout the project.
  • The public sidewalk along the south side of Wilshire Boulevard, between Spaulding Avenue and South Stanley Avenue will reopen.
  • The public sidewalk along the east side of Spaulding Avenue, between Wilshire Boulevard and 8th Street will reopen.
  • The northbound vehicular lane on Spaulding Avenue, between 8th Street and Wilshire Boulevard will reopen.
  • The westbound center lane and eastbound center lane in Wilshire Boulevard will be closed between Spaulding Avenue and South Stanley Avenue for work in the median. Traffic on Wilshire Boulevard will remain open in both directions. This closure will remain in place through April 2026.

Installing Octavia's Gaze with Todd Gray

Construction Hours

  • Monday–Friday: 7 am–7 pm
  • Saturday: 8 am–6 pm
